Routes for Trail Runs

  • Trail Run

Both routes start from the University of Cape Town (UCT) grounds and will take runners along the lower slopes of Devil's Peak and adjacent forests. Beginner trail runners should enter the short distance, as trail running times are often double that of road running. This is due to the variable terrain and the steep ascents and descents. Trail runners should wear trail shoes for better grip and carry their own hydration – a bladder pack or hip belt.

Runners start on Jamie Plaza head south, around Madiba Ring Road and passed the tennis courts on to Rhodes Memorial drive. Run up through the parking lot and turn left along the jeep track. Follow jeep track till doing a loop and joining the Orchid trail. Follow jeep trail above Newlands Res, before dropping down below Mount Pleasant. Cross road and follow track down through the old zoo and back in to UCT and onto the finish line

Long Course (±22km)

Runners start on Jamie Plaza head south, around Madiba Ring Road and passed the tennis courts onto Rhodes Memorial Drive. Run up through the parking lot and turn right along the jeep track. Follow the marked route up to the Block House. Up Block House ridge on to middle traverse. Follow middle traverse towards Table Mountain until Saddle Path. Head down Saddle Path on to lower traverse and follow back to Block House and water table.

From Block House head south along Wood Cutters Trail before dropping down to Newlands plantation. Follow jeep track above the  Newlands Res, follow the mountain bike track down to below Mount Pleasant. Cross road and follow track down through the old zoo and back to UCT and onto the finish line.
